Believe it or not, this IS a fitness post. I may not be lifting, or running, or reaffirming my deep seated hatred of box jumps, but I am doing two very important things: 1) enjoying an afternoon of active rest, and 2) letting myself focus on life outside of the gym. 80/20 shouldn't just be your food mentality, but your health mentality in general. Why do you train? Is it for a look? If so, do you ever get to relax and enjoy the physique you have achieved, out in the real world? Or do you train for health? If so, get out and enjoy life! A mental break allows you to appreciate the other important people and things in your life, AND helps you refocus once you return to your gym.
A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love. ~ Saint Basil // Reaping the fruits of my labour at Seal Bay, July 2014

2017 Highlight: 1 of 17!
Our first full year on Vancouver Island.
Wow, did that ever fly by quickly! We've gotten to know many of our new neighbours, and fellow Islanders with similar interests and hobbies, and are really feeling like we are truly settled in our new home of Sooke! We spent much of our spare time in 2017 exploring as much as we could everywhere between Victoria, Sooke, and Port Renfrew: hiking the trails, biking on the Galloping Goose, finding new sights, and taking photos galore. This photo Matt took of Sheringham Lighthouse reminds us how lucky we are to have found such a great community and place to call home.
We may not have snow but these past few days have been glistening with morning frost. I’m hoping for a few flakes to join us for winter solstice. This will be the darkest week of the year, until the return of light ✨ Enjoy the slow and calm that darkness brings over the next week. Remember to nourish the parts of you that are begging for it right now, even amongst the chaos. There’s magic beside the mayhem, you just have to slow down a little to feel it. ✨
