I realize this is technically not your district @suziepricelb3 but you seem to be the only council person posting recently about the new traffic circles and are always so responsive to your constituents... Can someone please come take a look at this sign that is on WB E 6th just before the Orizaba traffic circle? The distances listed seem way off as #RosePark is only 2 blks N of this sign & Willard ES is farther than the park(?) 🤷♀️ maybe these are kilometers not miles?! cc: @d2pearce

Stop signs aren't all they're cracked up to be, Seattle. Growth makes driving Seattle streets crazy - in front of schools, on narrow streets in old neighborhoods, and at 59th St. and 22nd Ave. NW where this crazy thing went down. Our audience's question, by a landslide: where are the stop signs to restore order? As traffic has worsened in the Seattle area, drivers have taken to side streets to beat brake lights. This promoted one of our most popular Local Wonder questions: Why doesn't Seattle have more stop signs? "I'm very curious about why we have so many unmarked intersections in Seattle," said Allen Prescott, who lives on a busy-ish street in Wallingford with no stop signs. He said that's fine for local drivers. "They'll slow, and they'll look, and they'll creep," Prescott said. "But there are enough people who don't live here and don't understand unmarked intersections, who blow right through them. You can't make the assumption that everyone understands how they work." There are rules for navigating unmarked intersections. "Right makes right. You look right and someone's coming, they have the right of way. If there's no one to the right, you have the right of way." Prescott didn't know this until his wife had an accident. That's one reason there are so few stop signs in Seattle. Here's another reason: A little uncertainty is good for safety. Crash data show there are far more accidents at intersections in Seattle with stop signs than without. Which brings us to traffic circles, an approach that reduces collisions by 97 percent. They're expensive, and they go in where crash data warrants. So maybe the question isn't why aren't there more stop signs. Maybe it's why don't we have more traffic circles? Starbux: the silly #Seattle suburbs notoriously don't have stop signs at intersections. So instead going to the astronomical cost of installing #stopsigns to prevent motorists from being killed, they instead decided to construct islands in the middle of intersections, creating awkward not really #trafficcircles.
Happy birthday to one of my favorite people and all around good sport, @alboy1994 ! Thanks for being a fellow introvert, putting up with all my (well, our whole group's) quirky antics over the years, and even smiling through our shenanigans--including when we "kidnapped" you for your birthday sophomore year. Hope you're holding down the fort at Davidson for us! 🎉 #TrafficCircles#WreckingBall#LEJ #🍕 #NYtoNC#STRiDE#diversity
